The Grand Lodge of South India (GLSI)
The Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of South India (GLSI) is a sovereign, independent and regular Grand Lodge, constituted and consecrated in strict accordance with the Ancient Customs, Charges, Landmarks and Usages of the Craft. Established on 27th May 1995 at Coimbatore, GLSI exists to preserve, practise and propagate the timeless principles of Freemasonry within the southern regions of India, while remaining firmly aligned with the universal traditions of the Order.
Foundation and Consecration
The formation of GLSI was the result of thoughtful deliberation and a collective resolve among discerning Brethren of South India, who recognised the need for a Grand Lodge that would be administratively accessible, spiritually grounded, and unwavering in its commitment to Universal Brotherhood.
Accordingly, on the evening of 27th May 1995, at the Masonic Temple, Race Course Road, Coimbatore, the Grand Lodge of South India was duly constituted, consecrated and proclaimed by the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Upper India (GLUI).
Acting under lawful authority, M.W. Bro. Dr. Narendra Vasishta, Grand Master of GLUI, formally declared GLSI to be a regular Grand Lodge, fully empowered to warrant and consecrate Lodges and to govern the Craft within its recognised jurisdiction, in conformity with Ancient Masonic Law and Practice.
Installation of the First Grand Master
At its inception, M.W. Bro. Naickanur Rangaswamy Doraiswami, OSM, a Mason distinguished by his experience, dedication and deep reverence for the Craft, was solemnly obligated, invested and installed as the First Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of South India.
His installation marked the beginning of a legacy founded upon discipline, equity, fidelity to the Landmarks, and an abiding faith in the Great Architect of the Universe.
Under his leadership, and with the support of duly appointed and installed Grand Officers, GLSI was firmly established on principles of sound governance, fraternal harmony and unwavering adherence to the ancient tenets of Freemasonry.
